The FREE online screening of "Underground Ballet" will be held from June 25 to July 8, 2023; registration via Eventbite.

When fans of the football club of Beitar Jerusalem make their way to Teddy Stadium, they hardly ever notice Nadia as she enters and makes her way to a classical ballet studio beneath the bleachers. The ceiling trembles, the cheering fills the room, but the studio remains isolated from Jerusalem's reality. A decade ago Nadia and her mother, Nina Timofeyeva, a prima ballerina at the Bolshoi Ballet, left Moscow for Jerusalem and set up the studio. It was a professional suicide. Ballet and football make for a surrealistic combination.
Lina Chaplin is an outstanding cinematographer, always choosing topics that are sharp and difficult to understand, explain and convey to the public. In 2011, Lina and Slava Chaplin (1932-2013) became laureates of our film festival for their outstanding contribution to the art of cinema. Born in Russia and graduating from VGIK, the Chaplins immigrated to Israel in 1976. Over 35 years, they have created dozens of award-winning documentaries and feature films.
Previously at our 2023 Diaspora & Art Film Festival: the recently launched Legacy Program, which features captivating stories of art and literature nested in a historical context; a special event with Leon Prudovsky - a screening of two of his short films and a Q&A session moderated by Regina Khidekel; US premiere of "My Neighbor Adolf" by Leon Prudovsky and Q&A.
